Modernization of Health Care Institutions – Kruševac General Hospital and Dr Vukan Čupić Institute for the Health Care of Mother and Child in Belgrade – Ongoing Project

The trend of improving the provision of medical care by creating modern and efficient healthcare complexes with higher requirements calls for serious professional and overall engagement of all participants in the process, from the Client and users to design engineers and the Contractor, for which the optimization and balancing of the functional and financial demands and the available resources are necessary.

The design brief covers the refurbishment of the constructional elements of the facades and roofs, the replacement of doors and windows with those made of more energy-efficient material, the replacement of lifts and the modernization of all services. Access roads, car parks, greenery and pedestrian areas shall be covered by separate designs. The first phase of technical documentation development for the General Hospital in Kruševac has been completed, i.e., the entire As-Built Design documentation has been submitted to the Investor in both printed and e-form. This service has been invoiced and charged.

The team of designers led by Valentina Vučković Kiš has started working on the next phase –hospital architectural planning and developing the Concept Design for urban development design alongside the preparation of technical documentation for the Concept Design and Preliminary Design, in spite of the unfavourable conditions, since some of the existing facilities do not have a building/operation permit or it was subsequently discovered that they are under the protection of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of Serbia. The time necessary to develop this documentation and obtain approvals for the Preliminary Designs shall depend on the fulfilment of conservational conditions which are yet to be defined by the competent institution.

For the purpose of modernizing Dr Vukan Čupić Institute for the Health Care of Mother and Child in Belgrade in accordance with the time schedule specified in the contract, the Investor received the full first-phase documentation of the contract (current condition) in electronic format in December 2019. The priority is to prepare an Energy Efficiency Report with the accompanying documentation related to the Infirmary for hospitalized patients as promptly as possible. Meanwhile, a team of designers of all engineering branches led by Rajko Sević has been preparing the architectural plan and the Concept Design for the urban development design.
